Cop 27 - how do renewables fit into an energy crisis

A year after COP 26 in Glasgow where widespread commitments to weaning off coal were made we have seen a dramatic increase in coal consumption globally and even a return to coal in Germany.

I am fascinated by how renewables fit into an ongoing energy crisis. One thing is certain, nations are now acutely aware of the importance of having energy sovereignty.

Is this bullish or bearish for renewables, and what about the split between solar and wind?

To start the converstaion, it is clear that solar production is dominated by China, the world’s largest consumer of coal. The article below takes an interesting view. Do geopolitical tensions swing the conversation in Europe towards wind?
